9.36 Meters of String and Many Vinyl Records
The project “9.36 Meters of String and Many Vinyl Records” uniquely blends acoustic
and electronic soundscapes
the acoustic sound of string instruments meets the
resonant, rich timbre of the Chuchchepati Orchestra’s horn speakers and the layered,
textured sounds of vinyl records played live. The speakers are distributed throughout the
space and become part of the composition themselves—they function simultaneously
as an installation and as an instrument that spatially shifts, overlays, and sets sound
sources in motion. This creates dense, multi-layered soundscapes that draw the
audience into shifting perspectives, near and far spaces, and surprising microdynamic
details.
While earlier versions of the project, such as “sweet.sour” or the collaboration with the
Dara Strings Festival, featured a large-scale ensemble of nine improvising musicians
and 16 horn speakers, in this project the Orchestra works with a deliberately reduced
lineup, thereby heightening the presence of each individual voice: Gabby Fluke-Mogul,
violin; Paula Sanchez, cello; Patrick Kessler, double bass; dieb13, turntables.
Together, they create performances that oscillate between composed moments and free
improvisation.
